The season opener was very exciting, as it was my first time competing in an SCCA Rallycross. Needless to say I had a blast.
Last year Glen Helen received a ton of new dirt, which had not been raced on yet, and the state of the dirt was unknown. It became apparent very quickly that the weekend would be rough. There were a lot of rocks of all sizes, and various bits of debris. Saturday’s practice revealed quickly a few broken car parts, bent wheels and deep ruts.
Sunday’s race had the course in reverse layout, with minor revisions to the back straight. The direction change proved to be successful as the ruts did not develop as bad as practice.
All in all, it was a successful weekend for All Surface Subies seeing members Bill Carrigan, Mathew Mendoza, & myself (Brandon Leung) finishing successfully.
Bill placed 4th / 14 in Stock AWD Class.
Matthew placed 4th / 10 in Prepared AWD Class.
Brandon placed 3rd / 10 in Prepared AWD Class.
